Vasily Starostenko Technology
Vasily Starostenko sees the world through a technologist's lens — and it was ground in a physics lab. A master's with honors from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology trained him to reduce messy reality to first principles, to distrust hand-waving, and to believe that any system, no matter how complex, can be modeled, measured, and improved. That lens never came off; it just got pointed at bigger systems.
First it pointed at autonomy. At Waymo, he worked on driverless fleet operations — taking autonomous vehicles from prototype testing to commercial ride-hailing on public streets — and co-invented four granted US patents covering psychomotor vigilance, fatigue monitoring, and real-time operator safety systems. Technology, at that frontier, is not about the demo; it is about the ten thousand edge cases between the demo and the deployment.
Then the lens pointed at fintech. As Head of Product at Revolut, reporting directly to the CEO, he led the global product and customer experience organizations through hypergrowth — technology as the engine of a financial platform serving customers across borders. Different domain, same discipline: instrument everything, respect the user, and never ship what you cannot operate.
He also laughs at the machine age he helped build. When his own automated tools started negotiating prices upward on their own — "robots working hard negotiating 3x from 300 to 1000 and keep going up," as he put it — he posted the screenshot captioned "Vasily: sleeping." The joke lands because it is true: the builders of automation are now negotiating with it. He finds that funny, and a little telling.
And now the lens points at his own workbench. With Callpages, he is not just the strategist — he is the builder, shaping a product with his own hands the way a physicist runs their own experiments. From equations to autonomous fleets to global fintech to a product he codes himself: the through-line is a technologist who never stopped building, and never plans to. The tools change — equations, fleets, financial rails, web pages — but the method is constant: model the system, measure reality, and iterate until it works for real people. Physics gave him the questions; products gave him the answers.
